Online Courses
Farm Mojo's Online Short Courses are designed for farmers of all backgrounds to build their knowledge and know-how for self-managed farming success. Our nature-led courses focus on the main problems faced by farmers universally, including weed control, soil fertility, soil erosion, plant pests and profitable, thriving production. What underpins Farm Mojo's methodology is how this can all be achieved affordably and without chemical impact to your soil, your stock or yourself. This is practical, logical, profitable, sustainable agriculture. We've realised we can't be everywhere, but our knowledge can! Vitality Farming Program
On-Farm or Remote Consultancy
Our Vitality Farming Programs deliver a specified plan for your farm, paddock by paddock (or as required), to regenerate soil health and eradicate the problems you are facing. What Can You Expect? From On-Farm Consults Geoff will travel to your farm(s) and get to know you, the farm's history, what inputs have been used both recently and historically, and where you want to head. Then it’s paddock inspection time with an emphasis on visual observations of your farm. In our experience, on-farm observation provides many learnings which cannot be simply measured by science. Examples of this are seeing the soil types/land aspects and how these impact plant growth, visual indicators of why plants are not growing well (chemcical residue toxicity, lack of ground cover, overgrazing), and the condition of livestock or crops. There are many, many visual clues which build up the problem puzzle in order for us to know what we are dealing with. We look at the weeds which are fantastic bioindicators. Weeds tell us so much about the condition of your soils even before we dig them up. We may take plant tissue tests to be analysed in a laboratory. Then it’s time to get dirty and see what is happening on and below the soil surface. Soil is our greatest asset so what is happening in it impacts your entire production. We check out the soil structure. We sniff it, crumble it, teasing out further clues. We search for signs of life – ant’s, worms, other big-enough-to-see-critters, as well as the tiny strands of fungi. We take soil samples which are sent away for comprehensive laboratory chemistry soil testing. Once we have the results, we analyse these in depth, alongside the observational learnings, to create a complete picture. For instance, maybe you have lots of phosporous in your soil but it’s just not cycling. From here we create a Vitality Farming Program taking into consideration your budget and objectives. One of our BIG messages is “Programs Before Products”. Farm Mojo believes you need to determine your weakest link and ONLY THEN decide on products. Getting rid of a symptom (eg. weeds) does not take away the root cause (eg. compacted, minerally exhausted soils). So, our programs range from zero inputs (eg. you need to plough to get air into the soil before doing anything else) to, on average, about $100AUD per hectare. Of course, it can be more depending on your budget and what time frame you are working with. Some older farmers have stated “I don’t have enough time left to do it slowly. I want to pass on my land in as good as condition as possible.”. All programs can be adjusted up or down and are paddock specific. We also have affliations with suppliers of excellent microbial products which have been brewed for decades and are not readily accessible to the general public. Vitality Farming Programs can be offered via remote consultancy as well based on photographs and video, soil and plant labatory testing and conversation.

Workshops
Geoff Bassett, 2022 Finalist of the Bob Hawke National Landcare Award, is available to facilitate workshops on all aspects of nature-led farming. Typically, these are focused around weeds, soil health, maximising plant sugar production, retaining water in the farmscape and adaptive farming, however can be adjusted to suit your audience. Workshops can be any combination of classroom presentation, field observation and discussion workgroups. Each workshop is further tailored on the day to meet the specific needs of the day’s attendees, ensuring everyone leaves with answers to their questions.
Landscape Reading Days
For Farmer Groups
Landscape Reading Days are all about on-farm obsevational learning and can be arranged by request through your local Landcare or Farming Interest Groups. A Landscape Reading Day involves a group of farmers travelling between 2-3 farms to learn to read the specific farmscapes, and identify and troubleshoot the problems which present. The direction of the day is requested by the co-ordinator but generally the day unfolds with discussions around what is being observed in the paddocks and the problems attendees are having on their farms. These tours are highly informative and you will leave with a practical understanding of how to observe your own farm. Farm Mojo problem solving methods are always aiming towards affordable, logical solutions. Landscape Reading Days can be combined with an indoor presentation or a white board presentation in the paddock. Contact your local farming support network to request or gather a group of farmers yourself and contact us directly to arrange.
